When you register a business name it becomes the main name of your limited partnership. A secondary business name (särskilt företagsnamn) is a trading name under which you can trade or promote part of your business activities. If you want to protect that name, you can apply for registration of a secondary business name.
It is important that the secondary business name only refers to a specific part of the business activities and cannot be mistaken for the main name of the limited partnership.
It is possible to have several secondary business names registered for different business activities that collectively represent the limited partnership’s main activity.
If you register more than one secondary name, they must all refer to different business activities. You cannot have several names for the same part of your business activities.
Susan and Christine run a limited partnership. They run a chimney sweep and laundry business, and the name of their business is “Sooty SC Chimney Services Kommanditbolag”. However, they find it a bit difficult to attract customers to their laundry establishment. They decide to register a secondary business name for the part of the business activities that refers to the laundry service: “Susan and Christine’s Lush Laundry”.
